How internal AML compliance work arises

Many companies underestimate the recurring work associated with being subject to AML requirements. Below you can see the main activities and our time estimates.

The suggested time requirements are non-binding estimates based on experience. The actual effort depends, among other things, on the complexity of the contracting parties, the quality of the available documents and your internal processes.

Depending on the case, authorised representatives, controlling persons and beneficial owners must be identified, the purpose of the business relationship documented, the risk classified and the file maintained in an auditable manner.

Ongoing monitoring per contracting party

Without an AML platform, deadlines, documents, ownership structures, risk factors and relevant sanctions and PEP lists must be checked manually on a regular basis. The model assumes a quarterly review. The GWG-Plattform.ch platform checks the relevant lists whenever they change and thereby supports ongoing monitoring.

For the annual closing process, information from contracting-party files, risk categories, controls, outstanding items and special incidents is compiled. The information must be prepared and documented so that the risk analysis and self-declaration can be completed in full.

Audit preparation

To prepare for an inspection or audit, the annual records are systematically compiled and reviewed. The calculation includes a fixed organisational effort and a brief review of each contracting-party file for completeness, currency, risk classification and auditable documentation.

Annual training for the AML officer

The internally responsible person must regularly update their specialist knowledge. In addition to attending the course, this may include preparation, follow-up work, internal communication of important changes and documentation of the training record. External course fees are included separately in the subsequent calculation.
